I didn't create the SOAR self-care battery in theory. I created it in the midst of my own perfect storm.
After 20 years in clinical psychiatry, I reached a point of complete burnout.
But it wasn’t just work. It was the cumulative load —
A changing body through perimenopause, unresolved health issues, the emotional weight of caregiving, and the relentless drive to keep going.
I knew there had to be a kinder, gentler way to juggle a challenging career and a busy family life, without sacrificing my sanity or well-being.
It was a Mindful Self-Compassion course that gave me permission to pause, to stop pushing, to soften.
And it was Yin Yoga that helped my nervous system downregulate for the first time in decades.
From there, I returned to the tools I had once studied but never fully lived:
